How to Choose the Right AC Size for Your Room

A simple guide to choosing AC capacity (BTU) based on room size and the Eastern Province heat.

Why does AC size matter?

An undersized unit runs non-stop, cools poorly and uses more power. An oversized unit cools fast, cycles off and back on, and removes less humidity. The right size gives steady cooling and a lower bill.

A rough starting rule

As a rough start: small rooms often suit 12,000 BTU, medium rooms 18,000, and large rooms or majlis 24,000+. Summer heat in Al-Ahsa and Dammam is intense, so sun-facing rooms, high ceilings or large windows need more capacity.

Best option: a technician's assessment

A rule of thumb is no substitute for an assessment. TAAL's team sizes the unit by area, orientation, insulation and occupancy, then recommends a GREE, Midea, BASIC or Mando Plus model.
